A week or so ago I had the pleasure of visiting friends in the Chicago area. Since he is also a photographer, we had great fun together for several days. One of the places we visited was the Chicago Botanic Garden. It contained a display called "Blossoms and Butterflies". The display was outdoors and the sun shone brightly. Here is one image which I chose to use in my "Creative Photography" class this semester:
In the class I needed an image I could hand color. So I changed this image to black and white and cropped the image to get to this point:
This image works pretty well by itself as a B & W image. I have done two versions of it as a hand colored print; one colored realistically and one colored psychedelic. I used water cooler pencils followed by a fine brush of water.
But I wanted to go farther. So I tried inverting the black and white image and really liked what turned out:
