It's a new year so time for a new blog post!

The Photo Arts Group in Escondido is doing a Black and White Exhibition for January.  I went back through 2016 photos searching for color images that would make the switch to black and white well, and selected this image of a flower and butterfly from back in April:

The essence of this photo is the upside down blossom with the butterfly attaching itself.  So I cropped it to this:

In Camera Raw I worked to eliminate all but the essence to arrive at this:

I like the stem out of focus emerging from rear to front.  Then I converted to black and white using SilverEfex:

For a black and white image the emerging stem did not seem as desirable so the image was cropped again.  Here is the final version:

2017-012017-01 I look forward to working more with black and white this year.  And making more frequent blog entries.  And, hopefully, hearing your comments frequently.
